About City

London is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom with resident population of 7,375, making it the smallest city in England. Standing on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia.

It’s a city where old and new amiably clash, high culture rubs shoulders with pearly queens – with its streets paved with regal glory. London is a city crackling with the energy of a centre of world finance; filled with the magic of a town ruled by the on-going twists of a millennium of monarchy; charmingly cluttered by centuries of piece-by-piece hoisting skywards of grand palaces, historic monuments and quirky skyscrapers; a city bustling with English good-natured humour – and a buzzing international community of unparalleled diversity.

There's so much to see and do in London, it's easy to be overwhelmed. Major sights like the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace are on most visitors' itineraries, but no matter what your interests, you'll probably find something here. Art lovers should make a beeline for the National Gallery and the Tate Modern. If military history's your thing, don't miss the Cabinet War Rooms. Finally, forget everything you've heard about bland, mushy British food—the restaurant scene here is fabulous.

Cross Westminster Bridge to the London Eye, where you can see the city from a different perspective. Head north from Trafalgar Square and you're quickly in the entertainment capital of the eastern hemisphere, the West End. Here you can shop-til-you-drop along Oxford Street, pick up a souvenir at Covent Garden's charming markets, and then give the town 'a spin', at one of its many theatres and playhouses. And if you decide instead to take the route eastwards, you're in for a cultural treat. At the Southbank Centre, Royal Festival Hall and the Royal National Theatre, the capital's finest art, dance, drama and music is performed by national companies of repute. From iconic plazas to hidden hangouts, London is blessed with plenty of beautiful parks and other interesting outdoor spaces - a great place to while away the hours both for visitors and locals on a budget and best places to escape to when the hustle and bustle of city life all gets a bit much

The story of London doesn't stop there – further east towards the sea are the old docklands of the East End, now split between crowded London squares, towering towers of finance and trendy lanes of alternative art. As is the case across all of London, the beauty of this city lies in its apparent casual chaos, its wonderful contradictions – and its timeless stories.

In total it’s a shopper’s and foodie’s haven, a place with royal air, arena of fashion, a leading global city, with strengths of heritage, arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development and tourism a brilliant place to visit whatever your age, and both seniors full of beans, and those who prefer to explore at a slower pace, will find plenty of suitable options here. This list includes my pick of London's best — and easiest to access — places to visit, ensuring you won't miss out on all that the capital has to offer. Explore the best of London- a city who has many things for everyone
